Bamboo Facts!
- Bamboo proves to be a building material that produces extremely high yields. In a single harvest the building material obtained can be up to 20 times when compared to hardwood trees.
- Bamboo is also extremely versatile. Its material can be used for multiple purposes including clothing, bikes, skateboards, skyscrapers, and bridges.
- Compared to all other building materials, it is very cost efficient. The cost for transportation is significantly lower because it is very light weight. Another consequence of its weight is that it can be transported in enormous quantities.
- The internal design of the bamboo allows it to be able to support a considerable amount of vertical stress. However, bamboo cannot sustain as much when stress is applied when the bamboo is horizontal.
- Because bamboo’s stiffness/mass per volume value is higher, it is arguably a better building material than steel or concrete.
- A few species of bamboo have the same strength as steel have almost twice the compression ratio as concrete.
- Can be shaped into any shape desired.
- Where p, in the range of [0,1] is the failure probability of single fibers under an applied stress less than or equal to σf times σo is the Weibull scale parameter (characteristic stress for a reference length. B is the Weibull modulus (shape parameter). It describes the variability of the failure strengths.
